An original silkscreened advertising concert poster for two weeks of The Velvet Underground and Nico plus a wild multi-media show dubbed the "Plastic Inevitable Show," presented by pop-culture icon Andy Warhol. The event took place at the short-lived Trip nightclub, "the New Shrine of Pop Culture," on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA.

The dramatically cool artwork on this poster makes it extremely popular with collectors. It features a reproduction of artwork by Roy Lichtenstein (a legend in his own right) as illustrated on the front cover of Newsweek magazine, dated April 25, 1966. The poster also displays Warhol's Campbell Soup Kids in the lower right corner, and some intriguing press quotes from The New York Times, Time magazine, Newsweek and even Warhol himself.

Warhol and his cadre called this series of events "The Exploding Plastic Inevitable Show," while sometimes excluding the word "Exploding," as in this case. They were truly multi-media extravaganzas, similar to the west coast's Acid Tests thrown by Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters. The whole thing was the brainchild of Warhol, combining performances by the Velvet Underground and Nico (a year before their debut album was released) with light shows, dancing and Warhol films. The Velvets were supported by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention and accompanied by members of Warhol's entourage including Edie Sedgwick, Gerard Malanga and Mary Woronov. Although scheduled for a two-week residency, the show ground to a halt after just three days when the Sheriff's Department closed the club down. Nonetheless, numerous stars were spotted at the three nights that did happen, including Sonny and Cher, Jack Nicholson, Jim Morrison and Ryan O'Neal. A highly desirable poster sought by collectors of both rock music and Pop Art. Measures 14" x 22". Good condition with some discoloration at the upper right and lower right of the poster. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
