This handsome award plaque once belonging to Hollywood icon Clark Gable was presented to him by Gentlemen's Quarterly Magazine "As Its Fashion Personality of the Month...Presented December 1959," "In Recognition of His (Gable's) Fashion Individuality and His Valued Influence on the Dress Habits of the American Male." The award once hung in the New York City location of famous bespoke shirt maker and clothier “Turnbull & Asser,” who counted among their famous clients includes Sir Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Charlie Chaplin and Picasso. What male would not want to look like Clark Gable who during his long film career which lasted until his death in 1960 after filming "The Misfits" with Marilyn Monroe (her last film role also) was one of the biggest box office draws in American film. Gable who is best known for his performance as Rhett Butler in the 1939 classic "Gone With the Wind," was one of the few actors to play the lead in three films that won an Academy Award for Best Picture. Gable himself earned the distinction of winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in the 1934 film "It Happened One Night." Gable was often cast as the lead actor with the leading actresses of the day including his third wife Carole Lombard. Gable's gentlemanly attire was notable on and off screen so it was fitting that he was so honored by this upscale fashion magazine within a relatively short time after their founding (1957).
