Elvis Presley wore this Bill Belew custom IC Costume Company white suit, and blue paisley shirt while performing during his Las Vegas Hilton Hotel “Summer Festival” engagement in the summer of 1972. Bill Belew designed many of Elvis’ most iconic stage costumes, and this lot comes with a letter of authenticity from Bill Belew for the suit. Elvis gave the white suit and paisley shirt to his tour promoter and friend Tom Hulett that summer at the Hilton. The suit is comprised of a white jacket with wide lapels and high collar, silver lame accept pockets and silver lame-covered button (six on each flared sleeve) and matching white pants with flared trousers with silver inverted kick pleats. The accompanying sheer blue paisley print shirt has a six-button front closure with cinched gathering at the forearms and wrists. The jacket shows signs of heavy stage use, including commensurate staining on the lining, and as typical in his jumpsuits and stage wear, there is extra underarm sweat pads. There is also Velcro patches on the back of the jacket where the matching cape would be attached. Elvis would pair this white stage suit with various complemented IC Costume shirts. The suit and shirt are accompanied by an original wooden IC Costume Co. hanger, a letter of provenance from Tom Hulett detailing how Elvis gave him the outfit, a letter from Bill Belew regarding the white suit (the letter has been laminated) and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
