Stunning vintage photograph of Cincinnatus Heine Miller, known by his pen name Joaquin Miller. An American poet, author and frontiersman nicknamed the “Poet of the Sierras” after the Sierra Nevada about which he wrote in his “Songs of the Sierras (1871). For a time, Miller’s poem “Columbus” was one of the most widely known American poems, memorized and recited by legions of schoolchildren. 3.75 X 5.25 picture tipped on to its original matte blind stamped by Boston photographer “J. E. Purdy & Co” whose copyright also appears on the picture. Very good condition with light corner crease lower right corner. Overall size 8 X 11.
