Every signed baseball has a story to tell. This is a vintage signed and inscribed Official American League (Joe Cronin) Baseball with the extremely rare red ink signed inscription from New York Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio signed to Hollywood writer and producer “To Bert Granet, With Best Wishes Joe DiMaggio.” While we cannot say for sure, the baseball was once thought to have been signed using the red writing instrument of Marilyn Monroe. Cited as one of the most famous celebrity marriages in history, Monroe had been formerly married to Joe DiMaggio. It is noteworthy to mention that Marilyn Monroe often signed in red herself. Granet himself worked with Desilu Productions co-owned by husband and wife Desi Arnaz and famed comedienne and close friend of Monroe, Lucille Ball. One is left to wonder if the signing took place at a Hollywood gathering where all these celebrities were present including DiMaggio and Monroe, who were rumored to remarry during the time this ball was likely signed. Joe DiMaggio, widely considered one of the best baseball players of all time, was a 13x All-Star, 3x AL MVP and 2x batting champion along with many other impressive accolades. In his 13 seasons as a Yankee, DiMaggio took the team to win 9 World Series Championships. Joe DiMaggio may be best known for his record 56-game hitting streak, a record that he still holds. While the story of this ball remains uncertain, it stands out as the only DiMaggio baseball that we have ever seen, signed in “Marilyn Monroe,” red. Excellent condition. Guaranteed to pass James Spence Authentication (JSA). Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
