This model of the Elgin series watch got the name "Elvis" (in the trade) due to Elvis' fascination with having the newest and most interesting toys on the market. Elvis was so taken with this watch that he purchased several of them to give away to his closest friends and admirers. Elvis took this watch off his wrist and gave it to his hairdresser in the 1950's, Homer Gilliland, when he came to Graceland to cut Elvis's hair. Homer was a hairdresser at the Memphis Goldsmith's department store where Elvis' mother Gladys shopped and had her hair done. "Gill" as he was known to friends soon began coming to Graceland to do Elvis and Vernon's hair as well. Elvis liked the way he did his hair and Gill continued to do Elvis' hair off and on until the end of Elvis' life. With a letter of provenance from Gilleland about how Elvis gave him the watch after Gill had come to Graceland to cut Elvis' hair. This watch still has the original cloth bag that come with it when Elvis gifted it to Gill! Also includes several color photographs of Elvis wearing the watch, including one with Elvis wearing the watch and the iconic red suede jacket offered in this auction!
