Three photographs including a stunning cabinet photograph and two other trimmed cabinet photographs or file photographs of the witty and flamboyant poet, playwright and novelist Oscar Wilde, best remembered for his novel “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Accompanied by an original program (opens to 9.25 X 6.125) from his lecture “Personal Impressions of America,” given at The Princes’ Hall, Piccadilly on July 10, 1883. The cabinet photograph is identified on front and back from the London Studio of Alfred Ellis & Walery (4.25 X 6.5). The remaining two photographs on heavy board (4.25 X 6 and one slightly smaller) picture Wilde with longer hair and each labeled with a vintage handprinted tape label. Wilde died in 1900 at the young age of 46, just a few years after his release from a prison term based on famously being convicted for gross indecency. The epitaph on his tomb in Paris is a verse from “The Ballad of Reading Gaol,” which he wrote after his release from prison in Reading. The cabinet photograph remains in excellent condition, other items are good to very good. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
