Who drummer Kenney Jones has signed and inscribed this postcard from the famed Stok Club in New York City in blue pen, "To Fran, Best Wishes, Kenney Jones". Kenney Jones took over drumming after the band's original drummer Keith Noon tragically died. This signed postcard was obtained by a dinner guest on a magical night late in 1979 when she had the incredible luck of having dinner at the Stork Club with The Who, who were staying at the Hotel Navarro in New York City, their home base when they were on tour. They would stay at the hotel, which was next door to the Stork Club, (you could get to the Stork Club through a passageway in the hotel), then fly out to their nearby concerts from there. This evening bears historical significance since it was just before the Who's infamous concert in Cincinnati where the tragic stampede took place. The companion of the person who received the signature spent time with the band before and after the stampede and vividly remembers their anguish at what happened. Kenney signed this postcard at the table and it has been in the possession of the person he gave it to up to the time of this auction. Measuring 5.5 x 3.5, the postcard shows wear on the front, with creasing on both sides, overall good condition with a strong signature. Comes with a letter of provenance from the lucky individual who had dinner with them that special night (they were also joined by a Bruce Springsteen, who stopped by the table, a beer in each pocket, and sat down with them!) and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Letter of Authenticity.
