Beloved New York Knicks star basketball center Willis Reed lays one up as a student looks on in this candid 8 X 10 black and white original photograph that was taken at his basketball camp on the Hudson in Cornwall, New York. Reed is revered for one of the most fabled events in NBA history. After suffering a severe thigh injury and torn muscle, Reed limped off the court in Game 5 of the 1970 NBA Championship Series versus the Los Angeles Lakers and was unable to play in Game 6. The Knicks lost Game 6 and entered the Final Game 7 with the Series tied not knowing whether or not their Captain, Reed, would come out of the locker to begin the game. The crowd went wild when he did and scored the game's first two baskets, which were his only points during the game but were inspiring enough to lead the Knicks to their Championship victory. In 1970, Reed became the first player in NBA history to be named the NBA All-Star Game MVP, the NBA regular season MVP and the NBA Finals MVP in the same season. Excellent condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
