An original poster and button for the 1972 Youth International Party in Miami Beach during the Democratic and Republican conventions, July 10-14 and August 20-24. The Youth International Party, whose members were called "Yippies" was founded by Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin. The often "theatrical" counter-culture activist party went to Miami to protest the conventions. While the protests at the Democratic convention were rather mellow, the protests at the Republican convention were even larger and more militant than the ones at the 1968 Democratic convention. The poster measures 22" x 28" and is in overall very good condition. The poster has been folded and there are a few tiny holes at the crease. The button measures 2" diameter and is in excellent condition. Estimate: $200 - $300.
