Freddie Mercury Owned & Stage Worn Red Wrist Sweatband Circa 1977
Worn condition
Provenance: From the collection of Davis Ginesbourg
Per the consignor who purchased the suspenders from Davis Ginesbourg, “In 1994, I met Davis Gainsbourg, an accomplished charcoal artist at the KLSX (97.1FM) Expo at the LA Bonaventure. His brother in law had worked for Warners / Elektra / Asylum in the 1970s and 1980s. This gave him all access to many of their respective artists concerts all over the world. During Queen’s “A Night At The Opera” and “Day At The Races” tours from 1976-1977, Davis met with the band on a few occasions. On one encounter in particular, Freddie Mercury was enamored with a rhinestone cat pin worn by Davis. This seemingly innocent sign of approval led to some spontaneous banter between the two bonding their mutual admiration for felines. Through these types of encounters, Davis was able to acquire these Red suspenders that were once a part of Mercury’s stage wardrobe
Freddie Mercury was known for his outrageous yet stylish outfits, and part of his whimsical nature was his obsession with athletic wear. Mercury can be seen wearing wristbands throughout his career, borderline a staple of his look! This is an incredible opportunity to own an authentic sweatband from Freddie’s Wardrobe
There are various images showing Freddie wearing similar wristbands to these.
