The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia owned and used spare Travis Bean Guitar neck. Jerry Garcia's most famous guitar was also a Travis Bean make, and it was nearly identical to this one. This neck was purchased by Garcia in the 1970s and Garcia tested it out before making the decision it needed modifications. Garcia went to famed guitar luthier Glen Quan who invented the technique of “Over-Lay Fretting”, making the guitar more playable and easier to use. After discussions, it was decided that the neck could not be properly customized and Garcia ultimately gave the neck to Glen. The guitar neck has the serial number 714A, which is the serial number before the final neck which was used for Garcia’s famous Travis Bean electric guitar, which had a serial number of 715. The back of the guitar has tape with the writing “Jerry Garcia (Spare)” written in the hand of Glen. An incredible piece of Garcia and Grateful Dead history. Comes with a letter of provenance from Glen Quan and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
