Marilyn Monroe wore this extra-long strand of white beads during her publicity photo shoot with Richard Avedon, for what some call the greatest comedic film of all time "Some Like It Hot." The photo shoot most likely took more than one day as it involved various props, and looks for Marilyn (her hair is styled differently in some of the shots), in some of the shots she is wearing her wedding ring, and in other she isn’t, the style of ukulele changes meaning there was likely more than one ukulele used, and there are costume changes for Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Actress Sandra Warner stood in for Marilyn in some shots, probably when she was taking breaks. The beads offered here are one of the sets that she used during this long photo shoot. You can see in the images provided here that the beads during the shoot changed size and shape. These exceptional photographs capturing a very bubbly side of Marilyn Monroe were taken in 1958 by famed celebrity photographer Richard Avedon. During this shoot Avedon captured some of the most enduring photographs of Marilyn Monroe. The dress she wore during this sitting was valued at $150,000 to $250,000 by Antiques Roadshow. "Some Like It Hot" is considered to be one of the greatest film comedies of all time. It was voted as the top comedy film by the American Film Institute on their list on AFI’s 100 Years…100 Laughs poll in 2000. The film won the 1960 Golden Globe awards for Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical, Best Actress in Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical for Monroe, and Best Actor in Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical for Jack Lemmon. Orry-Kelly won the 1959 Academy Award for costume design for his work on this film. Props used by Marilyn are exceptionally rare, especially jewelry that was used in some of her most famous sittings. At auction, a necklace worn by Marilyn Monroe during her Sam Shaw shoot sold for almost $70,000. These beads likely appeared in the film, perhaps in a deleted scene.This long strand has been doubled up in the image showing here, but it is one long strand. Very good condition with slight tarnishing on a few beads and the clasp. Comes with a detailed letter of provenance from Eve Lane, daughter of the woman who worked closely with Richard Avedon during the 1950's to the 1970's and was at the photo shoot. Also comes with photos of the photo shoot and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
