James Buchanan as Secretary of State has signed his handwritten letter dated March 8, 1848 addressed to the Diplomatic Agents and Consuls of the United States in Europe to introduce and secure cordial treatment on behalf of a gentleman traveling on personal business. Buchanan was a lawyer and politician who won the 1856 Presidential election to become the 15th President of the United States. The letter measures 8 X 11 and is framed with his engraved portrait.
