Charles Ringling, American circus owner who, with his four brothers organized their first circus in 1884 and later merged their show with that of Phineas T. Barnum has signed this letter typed on Ringling Bros. letterhead dated October 3, 1917 in black fountain pen. In his letter, Ringling inquires of Mr. Hutchinson of the "Barnum and Bailey Show," "Dear Sir: Will you please advise me, by return mail, the salaries paid by Barnum & Bailey for 1917 to the Bosses and Department Heads? Your very truly, Charles Ringling". Ringling had purchased Barnum & Bailey but ran the circuses separately until their merge in 1919. 8.5 X 11. Very good condition.
