Chris Cornell played guitars are rare, but nothing compares to his 1966 Fender Jazzmaster. Cornell originally bought this guitar in 1993 and played it heavily throughout the 1993-1994 tours, playing it on over 30 shows, with video evidence from 13 different shows. Soundgarden didn’t become mainstream until the “Superunknown” album came out. According to “Superunknown” album producer Michael Beinhorn, Cornell only used three guitars to record the album. A Gretsch Duo Jet, a double-cutaway Gretsch Silver Jet and this Fender Jazzmaster. This guitar was used to record most of the songs on their most famous album, “Superunknown”. Cornell sold this guitar, along with many others, to long-time friend Chris Bond. Bond was Cornell’s best friend growing up; they used to play music together at a very young age. When Susan Silver and Chris Cornell got divorced in 2004, Cornell wanted to demonstrate that his guitars had artistic value so he listed this Jazzmaster along with several other guitars in the court case. This 1966 Fender Jazzmaster Serial Number 114706 matches the court documents stated in Case Number 07-2-16253-4 King County, Washington, Superior Court. This Fender Jazzmaster not only was used on stage performances, but MTV live performances, and of course, used to record their best album, “Superunknown”. The guitar shows incredible wear as this was one of Cornell’s favorite guitars. The guitar comes with the original touring guitar case. Comes with a letter of provenance from Chris Bond, an Appraisal Letter from Emerald City Guitars and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
