One of the earliest Axe Bass guitars ever used by Simmons, this guitar was created by famed guitar maker Steve Carr in 1978. This was back when the Axe Bass guitar was still in its early stages, so Simmons frequently asked for the guitar to be re-finished and re-painted in black and silver. An identical axe is shown to be used on June 14th, 1979 by Simmons. This Axe Bass was used for the early leg of the Dynasty Tour. You can still see remnants of the fake blood from the Dynasty Tour on the back of the instrument. The Axe was first painted black, then refinished to be silver, then repainted black before Gene gave it back to Steve Carr to put the guitar out of commission. The most noticeable aspect of this guitar is the bizarre pointed part below the bridge. It shows you how the Axe was still in its beginning stages and that there was a lot to be fixed before the final product. There are only a handful of Axes from this period, and this may very well be the only opportunity to purchase one ever. The guitar was presented to Simmons in 2004, with Simmons remembering the instrument well. Simmons signed the back of the guitar in black felt pen. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Steve Carr, a letter of provenance and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
