This is the only recognized rookie card of the former single-season home run champion. Roger Maris is, of course, best known for his great 1961 season, a season commemorated on his 1962 Topps card. What many people forget is that Maris, while his career numbers are modest, was more than just a one-season wonder. After playing for the Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Athletics his first two seasons, Maris joined the powerful New York Yankees. From that point forward, he became a fan-favorite in the Bronx. In his first full season in New York, Maris led the league in RBI, slugging percentage and was awarded the Gold Glove for his outfield play. With such an outstanding performance, Maris was named AL MVP for the first time in his career. He would win the AL MVP again the very next year with his record breaking 61 home run season. This four-time All-Star finished with 275 homers in his career, a career that ended in St. Louis. As a member of the Cardinals, Maris helped them win back-to-back pennants, including a World Series championship in 1967. Maris hit .385 with one homer and 7 RBI in the series. This card is one of the keys to the 1958 Topps set and difficult to find well-centered. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
