This black and white “Santa” hat was given to Kurt Cobain on Halloween night, October 31, 1991 backstage at a Nirvana concert at Seattle’s Paramount Theater. Kurt and the rest of the band put on the hats while they were hanging out backstage. Goofing around, they took photographs of themselves wearing the hats and one of these photographs, featuring Kurt, later appeared in the artwork for their historic “In Utero” album cover. Kurt subsequently gave the hat to a friend from another band who he was hanging out with that night. Accompanied by letter of provenance.
