The foundation was co-founded by Miriam Barendsen, Rick Allen's girlfriend throughout the 1980's, who was in the car with Rick when the tragic accident occurred resulting in the amputation of his arm. The funds raised by the Baladi Foundation are used in many ways to help the vulnerable Baladi animals in Egypt including: Purchasing of food, providing financial support for on-the-ground organizations and other volunteers, sterilization (spaying and neutering), veterinary care, adoption and fostering, awareness campaigns, field operations, animal ambulance service, relocation of animals to countries outside of Egypt.
