This original prescription for medicinal liquor, dated June 10, 1925, is a true American historical artifact from the failed attempt to legislate social behavior through Prohibition. The 18th Amendment was passed in 1919 as a measure to reduce drinking but failed due to a lack of enforcement. It led to an increase in illegal bootleg liquor, the opening of large numbers of speakeasies and a prolific rise in organized crime from gangsters such as Al Capone. By some estimates the prescription of medicinal, nearly pure, alcohol increased more than 400% during Prohibition. This lasting memento of that time is 6.75 X 4.5 in size and the Rx is written on an official Treasury Department U.S. Prohibition Service Form. Prohibition was finally repealed in 1933. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
