Rare program scored for the second game of the double header played on one of the most historic and memorable dates in New York Yankees history if not Major League baseball history, recognized as Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day, held at Yankees Stadium on Independence Day July 4, 1939. It was on this date that Lou Gehrig suffering from an incurable disease that would later carry his name, delivered one of the most moving and memorable speeches in sports history, offering the words “I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” Lou Gehrig took to the microphone in between games played against the Washington Senators with many of his former teammates on hand, including Babe Ruth who would fondly embrace Gehrig afterwards. While in rough shape with chipping and border tape from the brittle nature of the paper in use from the period and back cover that is completely broken in two pieces, the program remains a much-treasured artifact from this most tearful moment. 7 X 10. Poor condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
