Renowned singer and actress Pearl Bailey who in 1975 was appointed special ambassador to the United Nations by President Gerald Ford has signed and inscribed these five items including two FDC envelopes commemorating United Nations postage (posted 1957 and 1970) and another FDC honoring the sesquicentennial of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln (posted 1959) with each envelope personalized and inscribed to “Ed.” Also included is a 5.5 X 3.5 signed photograph and another 8 X 10 signed photograph. During her illustrious career, Bailey received a special Tony Award for her title role in the all-black production of “Hello Dolly!” in 1968 and in 1976 became the first African-American to receive the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award and in 1988 was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
