Offered here is the iconic Pele 1958 Jose Innocente Balas Centro Goal #142 True Rookie Card graded PR 1 by PSA. This is only one of six that are known and currently graded by PSA, four graded 1 and two graded 2. It is important to note two of the Grade 1 cards have a qualifier to them. At the time of the sale, this is only one of two graded 1 without a qualifer.
The 1958 Balas Centro Goal set was produced by Jose Innocente and features players that participated in the 1958 Campeonato Paulista. The album contains a total of 176 stickers. The stickers are pack pulled by collectors and on the cover, it mentions that each pack has 10 colored stickers (figurinhas). The notable sticker in this set is the Pele rookie card.
For soccer collectors, there are three main cards that are on the top of the list. The first being the 1957 Balas Futbol Pele card, with the only one being sold for $486,000, the second being the 1957 Balas Equipe Pele card, which sold back in 2020 for $187,500 graded a 1.5, and finally this card, the 1958 Balas Centro Goal #142. With only five other examples known, this is a true gem for any collector. This is the only time this card has ever been up for auction and it might be the only time it ever will be.
