Dr. Seuss drew this original two-panel concept sketch with text boxes and dialogue in the 1970’s. Entitled “Brief Song by Dispatcher,” this appears to be the first page of a longer story. The sketch comes from an animator at Depatie-Freleng Studios, a company that Theodor Geisel would frequent. Geisel, better known by his pen name “Dr. Seuss”, is perhaps the most famous children’s author and illustrator of all time. His stories have been translated into dozens of languages and sold in total over 600 million copies worldwide. This piece shows a unique inside look into how Dr. Seuss crafts stories and characters, and has two beautifully composed and colored illustrations. Per the Letter of Authenticity from Barry Goldberg — the animator that was given this piece by Geisel himself —Geisel would routinely destroy his idea and concept sketches after drawing them, making pieces such as this rare. Measures 10.5” x 14” and 16” x 20” in frame. Very Good condition. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Van Eaton Galleries and signed by the original owner as well as a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
