Zane Grey Handwritten Envelope to Wife.
Author Zane Grey has handwritten this envelope that is post-dated "20 JE 36: (June 20, 1936" to his wife "Mrs. Zane Grey" (Lina Roth, better known as "Dolly"). Handwritten in a beautiful, flowing hand in purple ink, Grey simpley needed to write "Mrs. Zane Grey, Altadena, Califormia, USA" and "Box 76" for the missive to reach its destination.
Zane Grey (January 31, 1872 – October 23, 1939) was an American author, who attended the University of Pennsylvania on a baseball scholarship, and studied dentistry. After graduating, Grey established his practice in New York City under the name of Dr. Zane Grey in 1896. It was a competitive area but he wanted to be close to publishers. He began to write in the evening to offset the tedium of his dental practice.and was also adentist. He is known for his popular adventure novels and stories associated with the Western genre in literature and the arts; he idealized the American frontier. "Riders of the Purple Sage" (1912) was his best-selling book.
