P.T. Barnum — world famous entertainer and founder of Barnum & Bailey Circus (1871) — signed this deed using a black steel-tip fountain pen. Performing in the mid 19th Century, Barnum was decades ahead of his time in terms of drawing crowds and performing, and was most known for his hoaxes. Credited with originating the phrase “There’s a sucker born every minute,” his circus was billed as the Greatest Show on Earth. He also served two terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives. Good condition. Measures 8.5” x 13.75,” but has three envelope creases and is photographed to measure 8.5” x 10.5”.
