A signed handwritten letter from Frederick Dent Grant son of Ulysses S. Grant on mourning stationery dated April 4, 1886 (approximately 8 months after his fathers death). In his letter addressed to famed portrait artis Oliver Lay, Grant discusses the painting of his father, writing, “…I think it an excellent likeness of my father for the time of life it was intended to represent him.” Signed twice with the second signature added to “P.S. we will expect the Portrait Tuesday morning F D Grant.” At the letter’s end.
