High school graduation is an important rite of passage for young adults. It not only marks the culmination of their basic education, it is also the time when a youngster enters the adult and working world. This was certainly the case for Elvis Aron Presley, who in 1953 graduated from Humes High School in Memphis and would soon go on to achieving super stardom. Offered is the rare commencement program from Elvis’ year of graduation. These programs, intended for quick, one-time use, tended to be discarded shortly after the ceremony. The program lists Elvis’ classmate George Klein as a speaker during the commencement ceremonies. George was not only class president and editor of The Herald (class paper) but also friend to Elvis. George is listed in the commencement program twice in addition to the list of graduates. The commencement ceremony was held in Ellis Auditorium on June 3, 1953 at 8:00 p.m. Featured on episode 4 of Rock My Collection. Happy bidding!
