An original Beatles in-store motorized promotional display for Capitol/Apple Records for "Yellow Submarine." An eye-catching, very rare item, this psychedelic colored motion display measures approximately 4.5 in height. The display was used in stores to promote the Beatles 1969 "Yellow Submarine" film soundtrack. Powered by a battery operated motor, the display features "The Beatles" in black light enabled printing and the submarine at the top rotates, thereby attracting customers select a copy from the bin that held a supply of albums. A sturdy cardboard pole extends from the rotating yellow submarine into the cardboard base. The oversized and multi-part displays from this era were fragile and store owners usually discarded them because of their size. The ones that have survived were mainly salvaged by fans and thus finding them today both intact and in working condition is quite uncommon. In very good condition, with expected age wear, some light wear to edges, toning and light soiling to lighter panels, corner bumps, and a few trivial holes to stand.
