The 2.5 X 4.5 signature cut of Chester A. Arthur, the 21st President of the United States (1881-1885) signed in steel-tip fountain pen displayed with an 8 X 10 color picture.
Arthur was Vice President under James A. Garfield and assumed the presidency after Garfield’s death on September 19, 1881. As President, Arthur did not appoint a vice president to fill the vacancy as this was prior to the 25th Amendment. During the Civil War, Arthur served as quartermaster general of the New York Militia.
