Though they played in completely different eras and at different positions, Cy Young and Mickey Mantle are both synonymous with baseball greatness. Young was a durable righthander for Cleveland and Boston who pitched from 1890 to 1911 and compiled a phenomenal 511 victories and struck out 2,803 batters. Mantle, a burly slugger who played center field for the New York Yankees, hit 536 home runs and helped the Bronx Bombers to 12 A.L. pennants and seven World Series titles. This lot holds a multi-signed baseball inked by both of these baseball icons.

The weathered Spalding baseball shows its considerable age (Young passed away in 1955 at age 88) and shows Young’s severely faded but legible signature on one panel, with Mantle’s autograph in similar fashion on another. Mantle’s signature, though faded, shows the signs of Mickey’s early scrawls from the early ‘50s. Both players appeared to have signed the baseball in black ink. Beneath Mantle’s autograph is the more prominent signature of Willy Miranda, a journeyman shortstop who played alongside Mantle for two seasons in pinstripes (1953 and ‘54). Miranda signed in blue ink.
