This Electro-Voice R15 microphone with “ELVIS” engraved on the next was used by Elvis on stage on July, 1970 while he was being filmed for the MGM special “Elvis That’s The Way It Is” that was released later that year in November, 1970. This particular microphone was one of several that began having technical problems. The “cutting out” of the microphone turned into a comical routine for Elvis when he asked Charlie Hodge for more microphones, and at one instance was holding four of them, many of them cutting out or not working at all. At one point, while holding all of the microphones, Elvis turns his head to the band and makes the comment, “You can’t lose with four of these bastards!” much to audience amusement. You can see this documented in the film as well as at 1:12 into the following clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCkDvmbP_hA&p=172EBFB6A7AE937E&playnext=1&index=27. One of Charlie Hodge’s jobs, besides helping Elvis on stage with his music, was to vocalize with him every day. Very good condition.
