French Bayonet with scabbard manufactured in 1878 to fit French infantry Gras rifles. This Gras bayonet has visible inspection marks from foundry and purchaser as well as the manufactures inscription on its blade. Top of the blade reads: "Mre d'Armes de St. Etienne 1878” translated as "manufacturer of weapons Saint Etienne (a Paris location) 1878. A wood handle with brass pommel and 20.5 inch steel blade. Steel cross piece and scabbard numbered with matching numbers.
