George Harrison has filled out and signed this Apple Records, Inc. check in his own hand, in blue ballpoint pen. The check, for 695 pounds and 52 pence, was made out to the Henley-on-Thames Corporation and stamp-dated "PAID 12 MAY 1972 94/3." This was most likely a payment on property taxes for his beloved home Friar Park, nearby to Henley-on-Thames. Harrison owned this home from 1970 until he died in 2001, his wife Olivia and son Dhani still live there. The home's famed gardens appeared on his "All Things Must Pass" and "Thirty Three & 1/3" album covers and the estate served as a muse to at least two of Harrison's songs, including "Crackerbox Palace" (his nickname for the mansion). The pink check, from the Apple Records account at the National Westminster Bank, measures 8" x 3.5" and is in excellent condition. Harrison's signature is strong and bold. Estimate; $600 - $800.
