John F. Kennedy Original First Day Cover 1965.
Born on May 29, 1917 in Brookline, MA, this first day issue was produced in honor of Kennedy's birthday anniversary, and is stamped "Brookline May 29 AM 1965, MASS."
It was also produced as a tribute to Kennedy and the rest of his PS109 crew which was sunk in World Wa II. The cover bears the handwritten and signed statement from Japanese Captain Katsumori Yamashiro, Commander Fliagship Amagiri. He states that the Amagiri sunk Kennedy's PT109 in error. He has drawn a small picture of the Amagiri rammed the PT109, dating it Aug 2, 1943, the day of the terrible accident. The cover is also signed by Edgar Mauer, who was on the PS 109 with Kennedy.
