In this historically significant handwritten and signed note John Lennon writes “Dear George Martin/Richard Williams, I wrote Please Please me alone. It was recorded in the exact sequence in which I wrote it. ‘Remember?’ Love John & Yoko." Written entirely in Lennon’s hand in black ink with his added drawings of his face and that of Yoko's in abstract beneath which he penned “L. P. Winner.” The address of “Melody Maker” newspaper is written on the verso. Martin, a British record producer often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle” for his extensive work in producing all but one of the original Beatles records is said to have significantly influenced Lennon’s “Please Please Me” composition, which was the Beatles second UK single and first released in the US. Williams was a writer/editor for Melody Maker, the world’s oldest weekly music newspaper. It appears Lennon was jogging their memory to set the record straight, that he alone wrote the song! Lennon’s important note measures 5.75" x 3.625” with a .5” hole punched out in the center around which Lennon wrote. The verso exhibits some slight discoloration and evidence of possible label/ postage removal. Very good condition. Estimate: $22,000 - $25,000.
