This is a remarkable Larry Bird rookie era game worn and signed Boston Celtics Home Jersey accompanied by a MEARS Letter of Authenticity, a signed letter from the Boston Celtics former Equipment Manager and a James Spence (JSA) Letter of Authenticity. Jerseys from Bird’s rookie season rarely ever surface, especially an example having the level of provenance that accompanies this one. On the left front tail of this white knit rookie jersey is the “Sand-Knit” exclusive label and below is the “Sand-Knit” label with size “44.” As specified in Lebeaux’s letter, Bird only wore size 44 during his rookie season. Bird moved up in size beginning in his second season and would eventually wear a size 48 late in his career to accommodate a back brace. Across the front of the jersey is the name “Celtics” and on the back is the name “Bird.” The player number “33” appears on both the front and back of the jersey. All the letters and numbers are made of green tackle twill.

Bird came into the NBA as one of the most hyped prospects of his day after leading the little-known Illinois State Sycamores all the way to the NCAA Championship Game. Bird instantly delivered on expectations, improving the Celtics’ record by a staggering 32 wins on the way to earning an All-Star nod and winning Rookie of the Year. The Boston forward finished his career with 3 NBA Championships, 3 MVPs, and 3 Finals MVPs — along with numerous other distinctions in one of the most esteemed careers in league history.

As per the MEARS letter, the jersey exhibits moderate game use and characteristics that earn the high final grade of A8. Comes with a MEARS Letter of Opinion, Signed typed letter from Wayne Lebeaux, a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity, and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
