John Jay, a Founding Father of the United States and the first Chief Justice of the United States has signed this July 2, 1796 document Governor of the State of New York. The document authorizes compensation to an individual serving as one of the judges of the Supreme Court of New York. The document retains the seal of the State of New York. John Jay was a signatory to the Treaty of Paris (1783) and was responsible for U.S. foreign policy for much of the 1780s and was an important leader of the Federalist party after the ratification of the United States Constitution in 1788. 7.5 X 9.25.
