Letter signed by Arthur H. Compton, who won the 1927 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the Compton effect which demonstrated the particle nature of electromagnetic radiation. During World War II, Compton was a key figure in the Manhattan Project and the development of the first nuclear weapon. Dated January 9, 1946, typed on the stationary of Washington University where Compton was appointed Chancellor after WWII. In his letter, Compton replies to an autograph request from a school sponsored War Museum. Very good condition. 7 X 7.5.
