Multi-Signed Placemat from 1985 Basketball HOF Grand Re-Opening with Jordan, Erving Signatures (JSA).

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, was founded in 1959. Named after James Naismith, the man who wrote and developed basketball's original 13 rules, the Hall recognizes the sport’s best players in history. This lot features a multi-signed placemat that was used during the Hall of Fame’s refurbished Grand Opening ceremonies in 1985. The Hall celebrated its renovation on June 30, 1985, with plenty of basketball dignitaries in tow. The emblazoned white placemat reads “Springfield Massachusetts Celebrates Grand Opening Basketball Hall of Fame June 30, 1985 Join Us” in bold black print with a pair of signatures from basketball royalty underneath it. Both Michael Jordan and Julius Erving signed the placemat in black ballpoint pen. Jordan then signed it a second time on the reverse side along with journeyman player Micheal Ray Robinson, who signed his autograph in blue marker. The placemat, which measures 15” wide x 12” high, sports several creases and tears on the right side and bottom but remains legible. Anything with two Michael Jordan signatures on it should be considered extremely rare and remember, these signatures were signed right after Jordan’s rookie season in the NBA. Erving was inducted into the HOF in 1993, with Jordan following in 2009. Richardson played a total of eight NBA seasons.

Authentication: JSA Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
