Syd Barrett Signed “Psychedelic Renegades: Photos of Syd Barrett by Mick Rock” Deluxe Limited Edition Book #267/320 (Genesis Publications, 2001)
A fresh and unread Deluxe Edition of Mick Rock’s highly collectible tribute to Syd Barrett, Psychedelic Renegades, hand signed by both Syd Barrett and Mick Rock.
Published in England in 2001 by Genesis Publications, the Deluxe Edition is bound in orange and turquoise leather with gold tooling and gold page edges, and housed in a custom slip case. There were 320 copies signed by Barrett and Rock; this is number 267.
Arguably the most sought after in the series of limited-edition books published by Genesis , this volume covers the period 1969-71 in Barrett’s post-Pink Floyd career. Rock was a close friend and former flat mate of Barrett, and photographed him in and around Syd’s London apartment and at his family home in Cambridge. While some images are well known, many have never been published before.
In the book, Rock writes about his friendship with Barrett, noting it was he who conducted the last ever interview with Syd, for Rolling Stone magazine in 1971. His original version of this memorable article is reproduced in full here, for the first time. Artist Duggie Fields, another close associate of Barrett, writes frankly about their friendship, describing life in the Earl’s Court apartment which he shared with Syd, where Rock shot the famous Madcap Laughs album cover.
The first printing of Psychedelic Renegades consisted of 950 copies, of which 320 were designated Deluxe Editions; these were custom bound in leather, signed by Rock and Barrett, and individually numbered.
