From the Bob Bonis archive comes this original "Yesterday & Today" butcher cover slick from 1966; presumably acquired by Bonis during the Beatles' 1966 summer tour. The controversy surrounding the graphic nature of the infamous Robert Whitaker photograph that graced the cover of the original press run of 750,000 albums caused an immediate recall of the relatively few review copies that had been circulated. Capitol Records rushed out a replacement cover featuring another Whitaker photograph that came to be known as the "trunk" cover; many pasted over the original recalled "butcher" covers. It should be noted that very few slicks were circulated in 1966; the vast majority finding their way into the marketplace in the early 1970's. This 12' x 12 5/8" mono version slick exhibits six horizontal wrinkles along the left border and one vertical wrinkle above Harrison's head. Estimate $700-$900.
