Since 1955, members of the ‘British Academy of Composers and Songwriters' have annually selected recipients of the prestigious Ivor Novello award honoring songwriting and composing excellence. Named in honor of the famous British composer, actor and playwright, 1893-1951, winners truly appreciate the fact that their selection came from a cross section of their peers. A wide array of categories, all spotlighting the songs and the songwriters, have contributed to making the annual "Ivors" award ceremony a very intimate, integrity laden affair. The engraved plaque reads: "EMI RECORDS LTD. FOR ITS PARLOPHONE RECORDING OF 'WE CAN WORK IT OUT' 1965." The circular base upon which the sculpted figure stands reads: "AN IVOR NOVELLO AWARD." Paul McCartney's strained relationship with girlfriend Jane Asher was the inspiration behind "We Can Work It Out." The song spent six weeks atop the UK singles chart and three weeks at #1 stateside. Ivor Novello awards rarely come into the marketplace; this being only the third Beatles-related trophy to appear in the marketplace. The Beatles cumulatively won more than twenty "Ivors" between 1963 and 1970; a remarkable achievement. The highly stylized sculpted female statuette, made from solid brass is 11.25" in height with a 7.75" diameter wood base and green felt bottom. Much of the black paint on the wood base has worn through to the natural wood finish. Estimate $30,000-$40,000.
