This is the historic upright piano from the Record Plant Recording studio that was used by John Lennon on the tragic night he was murdered in front of his apartment building The Dakota in New York City, December 8, 1980. John played the piano many times during recording sessions for several albums including "Imagine", "Walls and Bridges" and "Double Fantasy". When he working on the piano parts he would use on the album or composing new songs. According to record producer and recording engineer Jack Douglas who was the staff engineer at the Record Plant during this time, John loved the piano so much that he had it moved from studio to studio wherever he was working in the complex. On the last night of his life, John was with Douglas working on "Walking On This Ice" and playing the piano, shortly before he left. The piano's legacy is rich as there were other rock & roll greats who played it on recording sessions inlcuding Bob Dylan, Pete Townshend, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. The piano can be heard on Lennon's "Watching The Wheels" from the "Double Fantasy" album as well as the first New York Dolls album, Aerosmith albums "Get Your Wings", "Rocks" and Toys In The Attic" and more.
