The Rolling Stones Band Signed White Squire Fender Guitar Played by Keith Richards.
Offered here is a White Squire Fender Guitar, signed by Rolling Stones band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, all in a black felt tip pen. Signed and played by Keith Richards in 1989 during the Steel Wheels Tour
The guitar is in great condition and was played by Keith Richards when the guitar was being signed.
The backstory of how the guitar was signed is incredible, per our consignor, “In 1989, I got a call from an old friend who I had worked with many years earlier. I’m in town, he said. I’d love to see you and buy you dinner. I didn’t have a clue what he’d been up to, but I figured it out fairly quickly when I showed up at the restaurant. He was sitting with the Rolling Stones and I joined them. This was during The Steel Wheels Tour. After dinner, my friend invited me to the show. I asked if I could bring a guitar to get signed and he said, bring two. I was sitting in the dressing room, enjoying the largest shrimp I had ever seen in my life and watching Carlos Santana play ping pong with Keith Richards. Carlos walked over to me and said, are you any good at ping pong, and I told him that I sucked. Perfect, he said. Get over here. I proceeded to get my ass whipped by Carlos, followed by every member of the Rolling Stones. After the show, I was back in the dressing room and my friend said, give me $20. Puzzled, I handed him a $20, but didn’t ask why. I left with a few signed guitars, with each band member playing around with the guitar including Keith Richards. About 2 weeks before Christmas, a package showed up in the mail. I figured out why my friend asked me for money. Inside were 2 tour books. The inside 2 page spread was an amazing black and white photo of the band with all of the musicians who were onstage, including side men and backup singers. Both pictures were hand signed by each musician.”
Provenance: From the collection of a former Music Executive. Lots 76 to 100 and Lots 499 to 803 in this auction are consigned by one vendor, who worked with and met various artists from 1985-1992. All the items were personally obtained by the vendor. This is the best in-person collection we have ever handled as an auction company.
