Tom Petty Played & Signed Custom-Made “The Traveling Wilburys” Gretsch Guitar.

Tom Petty has signed this custom-made “The Traveling Wilburys” Gretsch Guitar in a silver felt tip pen, adding the inscription, “91”.

The signature is bold and huge, taking up over 12 inches of space.

The consignor knew Petty, spending a lot of time with him in the studio and in concert. Tom set it up for our consignor to obtain this custom Traveling Wilburys guitar. Our consignor was invited to attend Tom’s concert in 1991 and to come backstage where the consignor presented Petty with the guitar. Petty played it for around 20 minutes, teasing the consignor that he wasn’t going to give it back, before he signed it.

Provenance: From the collection of a former Music Executive. Lots 76 to 100 and Lots 499 to 803 in this auction are consigned by one vendor, who worked with and met various artists from 1985-1992. All the items were personally obtained by the vendor. This is the best in-person collection we have ever handled as an auction company.

Good condition.

Authentication: a Roger Epperson (REAL) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
