Tom Petty original Iconic Gibson Flying V guitar. Tom Petty wanted a Flying V for the bands first photo shoot. At the time Tom did not own one so he borrowed this Flying V from his friend Mark Stimson, (his name is on the original case) for the photo shoot. Tom Petty can be seen holding this very guitar in the bands first promotional photos. Petty liked this Flying V so much that he had the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Iconic logo modeled after it. After speaking with the consignor about the history of the guitar, and the fact Tom did not have a Flying V at the time, we believe the Flying V was played at the photo shoot and possibly on stage as well. Because this guitar has no serial number it could have been a prototype or custom made. The guitar has been appraised by guitar expert Albert Molinaro as a genuine early 1970's Gibson Flying V. The guitar comes with it's original case. The guitar comes with a letter from Alan (Bugs) Weidel, the band's equipment manager since 1975, a photograph of the band with the guitar and a Gotta Have Rock & Roll™ Certificate of Authenticity.
