Van Halen Band Signed Charvel Guitar Played by Eddie Van Halen.
Van Halen band members Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar have all signed this blue Charvel guitar in a gold sharpie. Sammy Hagar has inscribed the guitar, “The Red Rocker” and Eddie Van Halen inscribed the guitar, “95”. The consignor was good friends with the band and was able get the band to sign this guitar at the dressing room after a concert. Eddie liked the guitar and played a couple songs on the guitar in the dressing room too.
Per the consignor, the story of how this guitar was signed is as follows: “I had worked with both Eddie Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. Eddie was always incredibly friendly and Sammy was hilarious. I was in the dressing room after a show and the band walked in. Eddie had a briefcase in his hand. As he stuck out his hand to say hello, he tripped over his briefcase and fell flat on his face. Talk about an embarrassing moment. This was a different Eddie than the one I knew from earlier times. I knew he liked his liquor, but it was clear that he had an alcohol problem. He stood up, apologized and carried on like the professional he was. He teased me as he signed the guitars, but it was all in good fun, remembering the good ‘ol days. He even liked the Charvel guitar so much he played a couple songs on it.
Provenance: From the collection of a former Music Executive. Lots 76 to 100 and Lots 499 to 803 in this auction are consigned by one vendor, who worked with and met various artists from 1985-1992. All the items were personally obtained by the vendor. This is the best in-person collection we have ever handled as an auction company.
