An Elvis Presley stage worn black mohair jacket and pants, scarf accompanied by a pair of his favorite “Verde” black boots. In the summer of 1969 Elvis Presley returned to live performances for the first time in nine years, at the then newly opened International Hotel. His return to Las Vegas was a phenomenal success and he played there until December 1976, (the hotel became the Las Vegas Hilton in 1971), never playing to an empty seat. During Elvis’ first engagement in 1969 Elvis’ costumes were more subdued but Elvis looked the best he ever had and the suits he had designed for this engagement were simple and stunning. This two piece black wool mohair suit consist of two pieces, a black jacket with hand-tailored, hand-stitched collar and front. The front of the jacket consists of two faux pockets with cloth buttons on each pocket, and an opening down the front with cloth-covered button at the waist. The jacket sleeves flare with two fabric covered buttons on each sleeve. The jacket front closes by three sets of hooks and eyelets. The black, beltless flared pants have red satin inverted kick pleats with a pyramid dart at the top of the opening of the red satin kick pleats. Both the jacket and the pants bear labels reading "International Costume Co. Hollywood, Calif.” with several lines below reading, "job# measurements and name" with handwritten "Elvis." The label has a gold embroidered lion on the label as well. The pants have the same label. This is the same company that made Elvis' jumpsuits from the beginning. A few months later they changed their name, and thus their labels changed to "IC Costume Co. Hollywood California." Included in the ensemble is one of Elvis' scarves which at that time he used as an accessory and was not like the ones he would come to give away several years later, to the audience. Also with the suit is a pair of Elvis favorite black boots, "Verde." Very good condition. Comes with letter of provenance from Richard Davis.
